Abstract
Who is Clint Eastwood? If you’re interested in films and the lives of film stars and celebrities, you’ll know that he made Dirty Harry, and is associated with tough-guy parts and spaghetti westerns. Yet if you’re a young British black you would probably think immediately of a different Clint Eastwood: the reggae recording artist of the same name. That is sub-cultural, group knowledge. Such knowledge can be a badge of identification, even a defence.
