Abstract

How do we know what we know? The physical and mental processes of the mind are the province of brain surgeons and psychologists. The ordering of words, ideas and meanings are of particular interest to philosophers. But the relationship between people’s knowledge and understanding of the world and the society to which they belong — this is the domain of the sociology of knowledge.
