The Sources of Naval Capability

Abstract

Four primary sources of naval capability are analysed in this chapter. Together these indicate the degrees of support given at different ranks for naval expansion. This in turn gives a basis for estimating the likely behaviour of individual navies; whether and to what extent they will rise or fall in rank or whether they will remain stable. The characteristic patterns between sources of naval capability and the six naval ranks will also be identified.
