Still swinging

Abstract

After some more weeks of recuperating I began to think of making arrangements, which was the easiest thing I could think of, so I let people know that I had begun arranging again. Soon I received a call from my good friend Earl Hines. Earl had known of my troubles and had decided that he wanted me to make some arrangements for his small group. I was happy to hear this and soon I was making the charts for Earl. I was back in music which was the main thing. Even after that, when I made an arrangement for Earl, I never charged him the same as I would other people. Sometimes I charged him about as half as much as other bandleaders. The same goes for Humphrey Lyttelton. I’d never charge him like other people because he did everything in his power to get me back into music by having me make arrangements for his band.
