Abstract
(1) The term international organization is used in this Dictionary and Directory to cover the multiplicity of bodies whereby states are associated in a common purpose. The emergence and, particularly during the last decades, the enormous expansion in number, range of tasks and functions of these organizations may be viewed as a response to the objective need for integration of international society at both the global (universal) and regional level.
