Average Weekly Hours of Work in the United Kingdom 1948–80: A Disaggregated Analysis

  • Chapter

Abstract

In Bosworth and Westaway (1986) a number of hypotheses were outlined to explain the determination of average weekly hours, concentrating on the aggregate manufacturing sector. In this chapter, the analysis is at a much more disaggregated level, distinguishing many different industries and categories of worker in the labour market.
