Abstract
This presentation is a token of homage to Joan Robinson, from whom I learnt the method of analysis which goes with her name. Her life was a constant effort to rationalize the manner of thinking in economics and she insisted on rigor in the formulation of ideas.
Revised version of paper read at a seminar in May 1985 under the chairmanship of Professor Geoffrey Harcourt to the members and scholars of Cambridge University, Faculty of Economics and Politics. The author is grateful to Professor Frank Hahn and Dr John Eatwell for sponsoring this seminar, as a tribute to the late Joan Robinson. He is also grateful to Professor Nehru, Professor Sukhamoy Chakravarty, Professor Mohd Dore and Dr Jayanti Ghosh for their valuable comments.
The author acknowledges the help of I. C. Awasthi in the preparation of the script and research assistance connected therewith. He is also indebted to G. Srecdhar Reddy and G. Ramalingam for helpful comments.
