Abstract

Homing guidance for tactical missiles has come a long way since it was first considered seriously, just after the end of the Second World War, as a logical extension of radar. A review of more recent developments which have led to the present state of the science of missile guidance appears in ref. 1. This brings out the strong influence of the growth of digital techniques and large scale integration, of microwave microcircuits and array antennas, and of microwave solid state sources. In addition, with the growth of millimetre-wave technology the anti-vehicle homer has become a practical proposition.
