Abstract
Radar homing on surface targets is possible only if they can be seen against the background of surface clutter. Until recently this has been a practical proposition only against ships; a ship presents a large target and sea clutter is generally less than land clutter; it is also less well correlated. However, by the use of mm waves, seekers are now available with sufficiently good angular resolution to pick out a large battlefield target, such as an armoured fighting vehicle (AFV) against the background of clutter.
