Abstract
While the subject of this chapter is Pakistan’s relations with the United States, it must necessarily range over a wider field to include India-Pakistan relations and Soviet-Pakistan differences as well as the conditioning influence exercised on the US-Pakistan connection by the United States-India relationship. Moreover, neither Soviet policies towards Southwest and South Asia nor those of the United States can be analyzed without reference to their contention as superpowers for influence in the two regions.
