Abstract

A steadily growing sector of research in criminology is concerned with victims of crime. Sometimes this kind of research is simply seen as a method of obtaining certain basic facts. The victims are useful because they provide information difficult to obtain about offenders or offenses, especially when there are no possibilities of obtaining this information from other sources. Victimological research is then needed for its general informational value.
