Writing an essay on Chaucer

This book so far has suggested how to go about building a critical response to the particular Chaucer text you are studying. What follows are some suggestions about how you might organise that response so as to answer specific questions in an exam. There are many ways of answering exam questions, just as there are many ways of forming a critical response. However, there are more and less effective ways of doing both. For instance, here is a standard question on The General Prologue. Even though you may be studying another Chaucer text, try to see the different ways in which this particular question can be tackled. The principles are the same, whatever the question and whatever the text
