Study frameworks for The Canterbury Tales
The method for approaching one of the Canterbury Tales is set out in the previous chapter. There it is applied to The Knight’s Tale, and you should turn to the sections in that chapter if you want a more detailed demonstration of any of the steps. We go through exactly the same steps with each of the following tales. The tales of the Miller, Wife of Bath, Clerk, Merchant, Franklin, Pardoner and Nun’s Priest have been selected simply because they tend to be the ones studied most often. They also share many concerns and strategies, which is why I sometimes invite you to look across from one to another and make comparisons.
