Abstract
The Crucible in its printed form, which Arthur Miller says in the arly editions ‘is designed for the reading public only’, contains ong comments by Miller himself on the background to the play and on the characters. These comments are interspersed among he ialogue in Act one and form no part of the play itself. The amination boards recommend that you should study this ‘reading edition’ because Miller’s own comments are extremely pertinent
