Abstract

There are some obvious differences between life at school in Great Britain and in the Federal Republic. Some of these differences emerge just by looking at a typical timetable, like the one below, or at a school report. In the passage where Leif talks about his school, other differences become clear, such as the earlier start in the morning, the afternoons without lessons, and so on. The passage from the German Democratic Republic tells about an earlier stage of education, a child’s first experience of going to the crèche where working mothers can leave their children during the day.
