Abstract
The next two chapters are concerned with two metabolic pathways which occupy a position central to cellular energetics. These are respiration and photosynthesis. Some detailed discussion of the actual pathways is given here, not so that they may be memorised, but rather that some idea may be given of the way that these complex biochemical manoeuvres fit in with basic ideas of energy and thermodynamics.
