Summary
Urinary mutagenicity in rats dosed with benzidine or its terphenyl analogue, 4,4″-diaminoterphenyl (DAT), over a continuous 36 week period, was investigated using a ‘treat and plate’ version of the Ames assay. Mutagenicity to strain TA98 was observed in the urine of both benzidine and DAT treated rats in the presence of S9 mix. In both cases, most of the mutagenic activity was excreted within the first 24 h after each dose was administered.
