Abstract

This book offers a discussion of key aspects of handling problem loans, mainly those involving at least several banks and often an international aspect. It aims to provide a framework, or background, of the factors bankers must consider: the company and its possible recovery; the relative position of banks to each other; comparison of the banks’ proposed action with insolvency; differences in insolvency law and practice which affect that comparison; other differences in law and practice — tax, regulatory, exchange control, and so on; and how to put all these factors together in a rescue package.
