Abstract
Arbuthnott et al. (1982) identified two ultrastructural types of fusimotor ending on typical nuclear chain fibres in cat tenuissimus muscle spindles, ma plates and mc plates, in addition to a distinct md plate on the long chain fibre present in some spindles only and which is not referred to in this paper. The ma plates on chain fibres were identical to fusimotor endings on the static bag2 fibre. Further serial electron microscopy has confirmed the presence of two distinct forms of ending on typical chain fibres.
