Abstract
The foregoing contributions provide a most encouraging debate and for the Navy, may I say, a most useful debate particularly in the opportunity for academics and professionals to exchange ideas, theories and the occasional gibe. This debate has brought out into the open many of the major choices and difficulties which are faced by the medium maritime power. I am not going to attempt to sum up. Space will only allow me to comment on a few of the many key issues which I see as being particularly significant
