Abstract
Technological advance is sharply changing the defence environment. The fast growing power of modern weapons to find targets accurately and hit them hard at long ranges is increasing the vulnerability of major platforms and the protection of these platforms is becoming a highly complex defence problem. A new or increasing threat requires a new or modified defence capability. Continuous support in the form of Government investment is needed to fund research and development work necessary in this high-technology industry.
