Power Projection and the Role of The Royal Marines

Any study of the future of British sea power should include an examination of the roles of the Royal Marines. These remain, fundamentally, to provide a balanced force, in readiness to support the Royal Navy in projecting sea power ashore. It is often forgotten that maritime strategy is inextricably linked with the ocean littorals, and frequently depends upon the capability to secure them especially where they narrow into potential choke points. It is in this endeavour that the tasks of the Royal Marines continue to lie.
