Abstract

When the first scene opens, Robert de Baudricourt, Squire of Vaucouleurs, is on the stage with his steward. De Baudricourt is complaining bitterly that there are no eggs, and the steward is assuring him that there will be none until de Baudricourt gives his support to Joan, who is waiting outside.
