Abstract

A variety of effects of adenosine and its related nucleotides have been reported and a possible physiological role for purines as a neurotransmitter or neuromodulator has been postulated in central and peripheral nervous system (Phillis and Wu, 1981; Stone, 1981; Burnstock, 1981).
