Nc — Radial Forging — a New Concept in Flexible Automated Manufacturing of Precision Forgings in Small Quantities

  • Chapter
Proceedings of the Twenty-Fifth International Machine Tool Design and Research Conference

Abstract

The rapid growth of computer facilities has influenced the manufacturing technology considerably during the past two decades. Besides the machining technology also the forming technology can take great advantage out of this development. The paper discusses the flexibility of metal forming processes and presents a new type of numerically controlled forming machine : The radial forging machine RUMX 2000, it’s design, it’s control and it’s possible integration into flexible manufacturing cells or systems. An automatic process sequence planning system insures the optimum utilization of the RUMX 2000; it takes advantage of the results of material flow investigations for the optimum plastification of the workpiece cross sections.
