Abstract

The deformation of a twist drill is studied using twenty node isoparametric solid elements. Conditions of drilling in a pilot hole are assumed for the study. The effect of varying the helix angle and the point angle on the deformation of the drill are considered. Some criteria for the best choice of the helix angle are proposed.
