Abstract
We do not know the exact date of William Shakespeare’s birth; he was baptised on 26 April 1564, and his birthday is nowadays celebrated on 23 April. It is appropriate that a playwright who spent so much time celebrating England should have his birthday on the day of England’s patron saint, St George.
