Abstract
All the businesses which have been considered in these pages are remarkable for one thing: they survived. In many cases for more than a century, they passed through many phases of growth and contraction, adhesion to old activities and changes to new, opening new branches and closing down old ones. They took advantage of favourable economic conditions, and suffered from adverse factors in world trade.
