Abstract

In the past few years, pharmacokinetics has been establishing itself as an essential part of patient care. Its use by different members of the health care team has been variable, which in part may be due to the number of apparently complicated formulae and different symbols that are used. Nevertheless, when relating pharmacokinetics to the clinical situation, in which case it is more appropriately called clinical pharmacokinetics, a few simple guidelines enable pharmacokinetic data to be used in an uncomplicated fashion during patient care. This should lead to a more rational use of drug therapy and thus result in an improvement in patient care.
