Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to establish short-run industry production functions for the Norwegian primary aluminum industry. This approach follows ideas put forward by Leif Johansen. The key assumption—which makes industrial structure an interesting concept—is that substitution possibilities ex post are more restricted than ex ante for each establishment. Long-run aspects, such as structural change and technical progress, are revealed by comparing changes in the industry production function over the period 1966–1978.
This paper is based on Førsund & Jansen (1983). Kjell Rosanoff provided efficient research assistance at an earlier stage of the work.
