Abstract
The theme of Bernard Taylor’s contribution in the first chapter is the increasing emphasis on planning for change. Whether or not change is any more rapid now than in the past, the direction of change in recent years has tended to be adverse, and the business environment has become more hostile. The nationalised industries are for the most part highly susceptible to changes in macroeconomic conditions and have suffered accordingly.
