Abstract

O’Casey’s next play, his familiar two-acter and first acknowledged triumph by the Abbey Theatre, bears witness to the ugly sphere of worsening Anglo-Irish relations and portrays his native Ireland, in support of Yeatsian metaphorical claims, as ‘a fool-driven’ and ‘dragon-guarded land’.
