‘It’s a National Government Problem, not Ours’

Managers and Corporate Social Policy

Abstract

Davis’s Foundry is wholly owned by a continental multinational. Previously, the company was autonomous, and was privately owned and controlled by the Davis family until the mid-1960s. Established some one hundred and thirty years ago, it is the oldest of our case-study companies. The company has had other interests duing its long history but is now principally known as a general foundry. Turnover for the last financial year was over £25m., representing an upturn in the company’s fortunes after major redundancies spread over several years. Less than 700 are now employed.
