Abstract

A subroutine is a subprogram that may be reached from more than one place in the main program. For example, if a multiplication routine is needed several times during the execution of a main program, then the multiplication routine is better written as a subroutine which is ‘called’ when needed by the main program. In this way, the programmer makes efficient use of the memory of the computer.
