Abstract

Local cerebral blood flow and glucose utilization were measured with an autoradiographic, double-label technique (14C-iodoantipyrine and 3H-2-deoxyglucose, respectively) in rats following unilateral injection of 10 µg ibotenic acid into striatum or hippocampus. Five days after the injection there was a concomitant reduction of flow and increase of glucose utilization in the injected regions, together with an enhanced metabolism in substantia nigra and probably also entorhinal cortex, which represent secondary projection sites.
