Abstract
This chapter is my personal view of a problem which faces all of us who actively practise medicine, namely that of assuring that the patients who come under our influence will receive quality care, whether it be anaesthetic, surgical or medical. This subject is not confined to this country, nor indeed to any one country and is vigourously discussed in America, that is Canada, the United States and Mexico.
This is an abridged and edited version of the text of Professor Eckenhoff’s guest lecture.
