Abstract

Figure 7.1 shows the elevation of a centre to an arch of a fairly large span. In a case such as this the timbers used for its construction must be of sound quality to avoid splitting under the heavy loads that they are subjected to. The joints between the timbers must also be capable of withstanding the forces they receive.
