Abstract

The term statistics used with a plural verb means numerical data, as in Government statistics, vital statistics and so on.1 Used with a singular verb statistics means the study of numerical data, and not the data themselves. It is a branch of mathematics with its own concepts, methods and values, which find many applications in geography and other disciplines.
