Abstract
The manager who sets out to cross the frontier between his old comfortable world of experience and the new land of numeracy will find his way blocked by several obstacles, some real and some imaginary.
The sentimental against the rational, the ornamental against the useful; these are great and interesting controversies, which I should like, before I die, to see satisfactorily settled.
Thomas Love Peacock, ‘Crotchet Castle’
