Abstract
Human tastes being variable, any discussion about who is the ‘best’ or ‘most important’ film director from Eastern Europe would most likely flounder in unresolvable controversy. On the other hand, it would not be difficult to find agreement on who the frontrunners for such an honour would be. In any list of candidates, several names would be likely to appear: Dušan Makavejev, discussed in the preceding chapter, Andrzej Wajda, Mikls Jancsó and Milos Forman.
