Abstract

Basically the gearbox serves three purposes:
  1. 1.

    To multiply (or increase) the torque (turning effort) being transmitted by the engine.

     
  2. 2.

    To provide a means of reversing the vehicle.

     
  3. 3.

    To provide a permanent position of neutral.
