Father Parsons the Jesuit

  • Chapter
Eminent Elizabethans

Abstract

Nothing would have been more displeasing to Father Parsons than to be remembered as an ‘Elizabethan’, under the heading of the Queen of whom he was the most persistent and internationally famous enemy. Whatever he failed to achieve by his astonishing life’s work of writing, teaching, political intrigue, he certainly was a European figure in his time, moving easily and dealing with kings and princes, cardinals and popes.
