Abstract
It has throughout been the theme of this book that the strength and durability of a pluralist society lie in the freedom of its media to investigate and disclose the malpractices which can destroy it, above all corruption, dishonesty, brutality, intimidation, coercion and injustice. When these malpractices occur in the very institutions of the rule of law, it is especially important that they be exposed. The searchlight for such exposure has historically been fiction and drama as often as it has been the reporting of news and comment.
