Abstract
The hardness and wearresistance of Diamond- and Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) give these superhard abrasives a good chance in grinding materials difficult to machine. Yet there is a leck of knowledge about the suitable truing and dressing conditions of these wheels. Different methods, such as truing and dressing with silicone carbide, soft steel and diamond will be reported with special respect on requirement and results on the technology of grinding process as well as economical effects. As a matter of facteach method generates a typical wheel-topography, which qualifies the grinding wheel for specific machining conditions. An analysis of the dressing cost of the different methods show, that these cost are mainly caused by the cost of the removed wheel material. Compared with this, the cost for time consumption and dressing tool are still small. The analysis of grinding cost shows, that there is a great influence from the dressing process to the amount of these cost.
