Abstract
As this book came to its conclusion, the Royal Shakespeare Company presented a new production of Antony and Cleopatra at their studio theatre, with Helen Mirren and Michael Gambon directed by Adrian Noble. This is the first RSC production of the play since Peter Brook’s intended-intimate version of 1978, and it therefore could be expected to build on Brook’s concept — especially as it is staged in the small theatre. Adrian Noble, however, although stressing the intimacy of the drama, plays against the Brook/Jackson concept.
