Abstract

This chapter argues that the educational background of the average British manager is inferior to that of his equivalent in other major industrial countries, and that there is ground for believing that British managers may be less likely to be educationally and professionally competent. Throughout, we shall be talking about averages: clearly there are many managers and management teams of very high quality in Britain.
