Abstract
The methylation of membrane phospholipids is an important event preceding the release of histamine from mast cells and rat basophilic leukemia cells (Ishizaka et al. 1980, Crews et al. 1980). Phospholipid methylation requires two phospholipid methyltransferase enzymes (PMT I and PMT II); PMT I methylates phosphatidylethanolamine to phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine and PMT II converts the latter to phosphatidylcholine (Hirata et al. 1978).
