Abstract

Ultimately, the requirements for new coal utilisation technologies will be determined by their economics and economic assessments have accordingly played a prominent role in research and development programmes. Although extensive, however, the literature on coal utilisation economics is often not particularly helpful because of differences in the economic conventions and design ground rules used by different authors.
