Abstract
In December 1980 the Secretary of State for Scotland announced that he had agreed to the replacement of the current ICL range of computers (1903Ts and 2904s) with six ICL 2966 computers to provide mainframe computing for the Health Service for the next 10–15 years. The first of these is shortly to be installed at the Scottish Health Service Common Services Agency (CSA) in Edinburgh and the remaining five over the next 2½–3½ years.
