Abstract

It is well known that there is no such thing as ‘The University’, there are many academic institutions of different size, level, prestige and attitude. Consequently, nobody can claim to speak ‘for Academia’. Similarly, there is no such thing as ‘The Pharmaceutical Industry’ — there are many pharmaceutical companies of different size, level, prestige and attitude. Consequently, an individual cannot be expected to speak ‘for the Pharmaceutical Industry’ and will express personal opinions, not those of an organisation or of an association.
